Professional Boundaries

This course explores the common dynamics (relative to boundaries) which are inherent to both Case Manager/Person Served and Supervisor/Supervisee relationships. It considers these dynamics within the context of employment and the provision of services to the Person Served/Family, stressing the over-arching purpose of facilitating the increased independence and community integration of the person served. The issue of inequity of power is considered in terms of methods to minimize risk by recognizing indicators of boundary collapse and establishing more firm, clear, and explicitly-stated boundaries.
Participants will be able to:
1. Understand the risks and needs relative to maintaining boundaries in the setting of employment and the provision of Case Management services.
2. Recognize the indicators of boundary collapse.
3. Understand and implement strategies to establish firm, clear, and explicitly-stated boundaries.
Tristan Bentch is the Clinical Programs Training Specialist for Service Access & Management, Inc. He has over 12 years of experience in Behavioral Health settings including Case Management, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Crisis, and Forensic. Tristan holds a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitative Science, is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Tristan is responsible to support the facilitation and oversight of current and new clinical programs on a company-wide basis via the development/planning, implementation, training, and monitoring of various models, standards, and processes in support of the highest standards of clinical practice.
