How to Manage the "S" Word and Talk Openly About Suicidality
Amy Groh, Director of Crisis Intervention and Delegate Services at Service, Access & Management Inc.
Managing difficult conversations about suicidality is an essential skill that not many are comfortable with. Having a basic framework and understanding of how to manage situations where someone may be suicidal will leave you more prepared, not only in your professional, but personal life. This training will discuss ways to manage suicidality, including identifying warning signs and clues of potential suicidality, as well as how to best speak about the topic when someone identifies their own thoughts and feelings. This session will not only highlight what is safe to say but also what NOT to say in an effort to make the conversation more effective.
At the completion of the training, participants will have learned:
· Reasons why suicidality may be considered a topic that is not openly discussed.
· How to approach the topic of suicidality with an individual.
· How to ask the question about suicidality in a manner that will lead to an effective conversation.
